If you think you are suffering from a medical condition, seeing your Doctor and attempting to gain a medical diagnosis for IBS (and ruling our the possible alternatives) should always be the first step before considering hypnosis for Irritable bowel syndrome symptoms.
There have been studies conducted on the effect of hypnosis on the symptoms of IBS, with positive outcomes (such as the study entitled ‘Brain-gut response to stress and chorlinergic stimulation in IBS 1993) Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition classified by the elimination of other causes. It manifests itself in the form of chronic pain, bloating, discomfort, in the absence of any detectable organic cause.
